Conference series

The annual ACM Conversational User Interfaces conference is held in locations across the world, bringing together researchers and practitioners to explore and discuss the state-of-the-art in conversational technologies. Each conference is run by a dedicated group of volunteers, with oversight and support provided by the CUI Steering Committee.

ACM CUI 2028 Expression of Interest

For its tenth iteration, the Conversational User Interfaces conference steering committee are looking for bids to host the conference in 2028. This is an ACM SIGCHI conference that attracts over 100–150 delegates and focuses on showcasing cutting edge human-computer interaction research in the field of language models, speech interfaces, chatbots and other language based interaction paradigms.

If you are interested in hosting the 2028 conference, please submit a complete bid.

Before preparing your submission, we strongly encourage prospective bidders to review the Bid Guidelines, the Bid FAQ, and the CUI Bidding Template.

Completed bids should be submitted to contact@cui.acm.org. The Steering Committee will review all submitted bids and make a collective decision on the strongest bid, which is most likely to guarantee a successful conference that at least breaks even in terms of budget.

We will then be in touch and will work with the selected bidder(s) towards completing the ACM SIGCHI application process.

The deadline for bid submissions is September 18th, 2026.

ACM CUI 2026, a SIGCHI specialised conference, will be held in Bremen, Germany on 21st–24th July 2026. The conference will be chaired by Effie Law , Thomas Eßmeyer , and Nima Zargham .

In total, there will be 108 publications at ACM CUI 2026, consisting of 37 papers, 18 provocations, 37 posters, 3 demos, 4 SIGs/workshops, 9 Doctoral Consortium participants.

2025 marks the year that CUI is first hosted outside of Europe!

ACM CUI 2025, a SIGCHI specialised conference, was held in Waterloo, ON, Canada on 8th–10th July 2025. The conference was chaired by Jaisie Sin , Edith Law , and Jim Wallace .

134 people registered for the conference, 24 of whom for virtual attendance and 110 in-person attendance. In total, there were 86 publications at ACM CUI 2025, consisting of 35 papers, 5 provocations, 27 posters, 4 demos, 5 SIGs/workshops, 2 tutorials, and 8 Doctoral Consortium participants. The ACM CUI 2025 proceedings were published in the ACM Digital Library .

ACM CUI 2024, a SIGCHI specialised conference, was held in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg on 8th–10th July 2024. The conference was chaired by Mateusz Dubiel , Luis A. Leiva , and Johanne Trippas .

101 people registered for the conference. In total, there were 78 publications at ACM CUI 2024, consisting of 29 papers, 12 provocations, 19 posters, 3 demos, 4 SIGs/workshops, 11 Doctoral Consortium participants. The ACM CUI 2024 proceedings were published in the ACM Digital Library .

From 2023 onwards, CUI officially joined the ACM SIGCHI family of conferences.

ACM CUI 2023, a SIGCHI specialised conference, was held in Eindhoven, Netherlands on 19th–21st July 2023. The conference was chaired by Martin Porcheron , Minha Lee , and Cosmin Munteanu .

152 people registered for the conference, 36 of whom for virtual attendance and 116 in-person attendance. In total, there were 71 publications at ACM CUI 2023, consisting of 22 papers, 14 provocations, 18 posters, 3 demos, 5 SIGs/workshops, 9 Doctoral Consortium participants. The ACM CUI 2023 proceedings were published in the ACM Digital Library .

CUI 2022, an ACM in-cooperation conference, was held in Glasgow, UK on 26th–28th July 2022. The conference was chaired by Martin Halvey , Mary Ellen Foster , and Jeff Dalton .

100 people registered for the conference, 19 of whom for virtual attendance and 81 in-person attendance. In total, there were 41 publications at CUI 2022, consisting of 12 papers, 14 provocations, 12 posters, 2 demos, and 1 SIG/workshop. Where it all began!

CUI 2019, an ACM in-cooperation conference, was held in Dublin, Ireland on 22nd–23rd August 2019. The conference was chaired by Leigh Clark  and Benjamin R Cowan .
